Get The Most Out Of Your Beauty Sleep

We can all admit that we not only want to wake up feeling refreshed, but also looking refreshed! Your body already does a lot of work while you are sleeping, such as reducing stress, fighting off infections or inflammations, and increasing melatonin and collagen reproduction. But there are a few steps you can do to further the benefits of your beauty sleep.

More sleep helps your skin’s natural glow and it’s elasticity. When you aren’t getting enough sleep, your immune system is more susceptible to sickness. You can also get dark circles under your eyes, and your skin can become dull. All of this and more can lead to premature aging! Most adults need 7-9 hours of sleep each night. You not only want to make sure you are getting enough sleep, but that you are getting good sleep. Some ways to improve your quality of sleep include avoiding too much screen time right before bed, staying hydrated but not drinking too much water right before bed, and keeping your room dark and cool. You should also avoid caffeine, sugar, and grains too late in the day. It’s also suggested to sleep on your back or side for a better night’s rest.

Now that you are getting enough sleep and improving the quality of sleep, we want to share some of our favorite beauty hacks that work while you sleep! Before you go to bed, it’s important to remove your makeup and wash your face. Cleansing your face of makeup, dirt, oils, and environmental damage allows for your skincare products to work better. Make sure to aways moisturize your face, and adding a serum to your skincare routine will only jumpstart your results. You can also use an overnight cream, such as Origins High-Potency Night-A-Mins Mineral-Enriched Renewal Cream, for added moisture. It’s important to always put on eye cream as well. The skin under your eyes in thin and delicate and therefore looses moisture fast. Along with drinking enough water, letting a moisturizing eye cream soak in while you sleep will keep dark circles at bay. Our favorite eye cream is Clinique All About Eyes which comes in a regular and a rich formula. If you need to battle some breakouts during the night, try Mario Badescu Drying Lotion to dry it up in no time!

Some other areas to focus your attention for moisture are your lips, hands, elbows, and feet. At Beauty Coach we love Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask which works overnight to give you nourished, plump lips. Lush Helping Hands hand cream is perfect for repairing dry, chapped hands and elbows. It’s also a good idea to put a foot lotion or body butter on your feet as well. Ahava mineral foot cream is perfect for softening calloused heels. Also, putting fuzzy socks on right after is another great way to lock in the moisture while you sleep. Using a humidifier can help your skin wake up feeling refreshed instead of dry no matter what time of year. To nourish your cuticles and nails, try putting a few drops of Deborah Lippmann cuticle oil on and massaging it in before bed. Another cult favorite for beauty sleep is an eyelash/eyebrow serum! Lilash is a great way to help grow your natural lashes and it can work while you are sleeping! Or you can simply apply castor oil with a mascara wand on your brows and lashes.

Lastly, we’ll share a few ways to treat your hair while you get some shut eye. An overnight hair mask can work wonders by keeping your hair moisturized, which helps prevent split ends and your color from fading! Davines Vegetarian Miracle Conditioner is our top pick for a sleep-in hair mask. Your hair will feel like silk when you rinse your hair in the morning! Speaking of silk, sleeping on a silk pillowcase is another great way to help your hair, and also prevent wrinkles. Also make sure to change your pillowcase often, to prevent oil or dirt buildup. At Beauty Coach we love to style our hair while we sleep! That means we wrap or twist hair a certain way, so in the morning we get beautiful no-heat curls! Try twisting around a headband until it looks like a twisted crown, then wake up with effortless soft curls.
