How lucky are we that we live in LA and can shoot at a pool in the Hollywood Hills in October?! Especially when one of our favorite Gossip Girls, Jessica Szohr, wanted to shoot with us! With her new lead role in Kingdom, Direct TVs MMA drama on now, we were so happy she made time for us!
There’s a strong difference between her old and new roles. She went from being a grungy, rule-bending, yet caring nurse by day who is involved in the underworld of ATL gangs by night into a sexy, artsy, financially struggling photographer involved in the MMA world with a very promising love interest. “I am very blessed to do what I love for a living. I tell stories and learn something from the characters I play (hopefully the audience does as well). With each role I learn more about myself which is always fun, but sometimes scary.”
For this eye-catching look, Ashley used gold glitter on Jessica’s lips and body. To help the glitter stick to the body, She used baby oil. For her lips, a little bit of lip balm was helpful before applying the glitter.
Riawna did a sleek pony tail with a rope braid. She split Jessica’s ponytail into two sections. Twisted them each into opposite directions and then intertwined the two together. Another great hair style for the pool!
During our shoot with Jessica we learned that she was very passionate about a charity called “Be Bold Be Bald.” We were overjoyed we she asked us to be a part of her post to help raise awareness.
“I started to support “Be Bold, Be Bald” when my Aunt Kristen was diagnosed with breast cancer. Had I heard about it when my grandpa was diagnosed a few years back, I would have signed up then. So I guess it is because of them and my friends Pam, Carole, Debbie and Andrea. I may have gotten involved because of those people, but it is also for everyone that has to fight this disease. It is something so tough to hear when it’s someone you know. I can’t imagine how it would feel to be the person getting that information.
I like Be Bold Be Bald, because it is a simple way to spread the word and support or honor those who have fought or are fighting cancer. For those of you close to someone fighting.. stay positive, keep the prayers going, and just be there for them.”

For this look Ashley dampened an eyeshadow brush, and applied YSL Pure Chromatics #8 medium bronze to her lids. When applied wet, it creates a more intense and dramatic look. She used Charlotte Tilbury Rock ’N’ Kohl in Bedroom Black on her upper lash line and inner water line. Demi Wispy lashes finish the look. Ashley swiped MAC Red lipstick on her lips for a pop of color.
Having a pony tail at the pool is so typical but pairing it with a zig zag part and adding multiple rubber bands, down the ponytail, every few inches takes you from drab to fab!
Be Bold Be Bald is a popular charity event that has been able to raise close to a million dollars, which in turn has been able to provide financial support for over 40 cancer organizations. Be Bold Be Bald was originally created in order to raise awareness, raise money, and more importantly to honor those who are fighting cancer. This worldwide event happens every third Friday in October, participants will go bold by wearing a bald cap, that is specifically designed so that everyone and anyone can be a part of this special day. You can participate wherever you are! www.beboldbebald.org
Jessica is wearing Tom Ford Cream & Powder Eye Color in Naked Bronze. You can apply this gorgeous cream color in one swipe and your eyes are good to go! It’s long-lasting and super blend-able. For a creamy contour that melts into your skin, Ashley used Tom Ford Shade & Illuminate Intensity One.
For this look we wanted Jessica’s hair down and sleek. We wanted to add some edge to it so Nikki did a deep side zig zag part. She then flat ironed the rest of her hair with a ton of shine spray added so it almost looked wet.
“I think inner beauty is about finding your light and being comfortable with yourself. The blessing in life is that we are all made differently and that there is only one of us, so we must find that uniqueness within. Beauty is not in the face, its in the light of your heart.” (that last line is from Kahlil Gibran)
Ashley applied a medium bronze color to her lids and blended out. She also lined her lower lash line with the same color, then followed up with Charlotte Tilbury Rock ’N’ Kohl eyeliner in Bedroom Black to her inner water line and upper lash line. Ashley added a soft pink lipstick called Bitch Perfect from Charlotte Tilbury with a little bit of gloss in the center of her bottom lip for added shine. Add gloss only to the center of your lips to create a fuller pout.
Jessica has an amazing natural curl. We really wanted to show case that with out it looking frizzy, so Nikki put a ton of argon oil and Evian facial spray water in her hair. The idea was for it to look like she literally came out of the water and her hair fell softly over her face.
Here are some special quotes from Jessica’s journals that have stuck out to her about inner beauty. She’s been writing in journals since she was 7! “I always like to write things down that stick out to me, or that I find interesting… its not always just my thoughts and plans. Its actually very therapeutic if any of you are looking for an easy outlet!”
