In the month of March, we’ve come together to #MarchForOurLives, turning moments into movements. For those that don’t know, March for Our Lives is a “movement dedicated to student-led activism around ending gun violence and the epidemic of mass shootings in our schools today.” Furthermore, #NeverAgain is a movement intertwined with March for Our Lives: A movement to make sure that mass shootings ever happen again. March for Our Lives and #NeverAgain are calls for action, and missions to make safety a priority.
“In the tragic wake of the seventeen lives brutally cut short in Florida, politicians are telling us that now is not the time to talk about guns. March For Our Lives believes the time is now.”
On March 24th, we saw communities and individuals took the streets to make sure that their voices were heard. Protesting against gun violence: they demanded action, and are asking for supporters to not only take action now, but continue to November and “vote for our lives.” After the tragic event in Parkland Florida, where 17 lives were lost, #NeverAgain used the voices of teen activist students to end mass shootings. Now, they’re being heard, and we want to make sure that they aren’t forgotten.
Student activists Emma Gonzalez, David Hogg, and Cameron Kasky are just a few of the many many brave students who are making a change to ensure that something like this never happens again, and that it ends with Parkland. These students are standing up for gun control and reminding us that no matter how old you are or where you come from, you can make a difference. Your voice is important. They remind us that some things are just too important to not stand up for, and that you’re never alone.
Their message and perseverance is a symbol that serves to remind us that standing up for justice is essential, and that we never have to do it alone. We can turn moments that define our lives into ones that better help those around us. These Parkland shooting survivors are living proof of strength and humanity. Let’s stand with them as they call for action to end violence, and continue to make tomorrow a better day.
