How To Really Break A Sweat

Summer is officially here, and like every summer it should be stress free and full of self care. Here at Beauty Coach, we want to talk to you about a perfect way to de-stress in the upcoming months: Bikram yoga.

For those that don’t know, Bikram yoga is yoga consisting of 26 set poses, and is known as the original hot yoga. Bikram yoga is done in a 100+ degree room, and is taught by a certified instructor. The hot environment allows the body to stretch, detoxify, relieve stress, as well as helps with joint and muscle pain and problems. Furthermore, Bikram yoga Is done by a variety of A-list celebs like Beyonce, Nina Dobrev, Ashton Kutcher, and more for it’s results on their mind and body.

First thing’s first: prepare your mind. Hot yoga may not sound too different from regular yoga, but that added pressure of being physical in a 100+ degree room can really take a toll on you mentally and physically. Be sure to stay relaxed, eat well, and stay hydrated. Stock up on liquids 24 hours before the class and be sure to have plenty of water in class as well. We recommend using a glass water bottle, as it doesn’t contain any harmful chemicals, that way, it won’t leak into your water. Furthermore, a glass water bottle allows you to enjoy your water without the added plastic or metallic taste that other bottles may cause. Try Urban Outfitter’s Contigo Purity Glass Water Bottle, or Kate Spade New York’s Glass Water Bottle which comes in a variety of colors and accessories.

Next, less is more when it comes to doing Bikram yoga. By that we mean wearing less. You’re definitely going to be sweating, if not from the intensity of the workout, then for sure from the heat. Minimize the sweating by wearing less, and for the clothing that you do wear, wear cotton. Cotton is breathable and allows for airflow, absorbing the sweat. Cotton sports bra’s such as Adidas’ Originals Styling Complements Stretch- Cotton Sports Bra is perfect for doing some hot yoga. New Balance also makes great cotton hybrid workout clothes as well such as their NB Athletics Leggings.

Finally, we usually recommend bringing a towel or two (or three) as Bikram yoga can get pretty intense. But most importantly, keep an open mind, relax, and have fun!

XOXO,
Beauty Coach Team
