I’m sure you’ve all heard the rule of thumb to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day. But why? Do our bodies really need that much water and what are the benefits? For starters, our bodies are made up of 70-80 percent water! That alone means we should be replenishing and rehydrating our body. The amount of water per day varies on different sources. Some say 6-8 glasses is enough and others estimate the amount to be half an ounce of water for each pound you weigh. Either way, it’s clear we need to be drinking water regularly.
So what are the benefits of drinking water? When 2:00 pm rolls around and you’re feeling sluggish, maybe instead of a caffeine binge you really just need a big glass of water! When your body is dehydrated if effects your energy level. Water not only hydrates our bodies, but it helps carry oxygen throughout the bloodstream and acts a lubricant for your joints! Proper hydration can help break a fever and help your body heal faster.
Drinking enough water not only makes you feel good on the inside, but has physical benefits as well! When your skin is properly hydrated it is plump and has a healthy glow. Just think about a baby’s skin versus older skin. Dry and dehydrated skin can sag and, over time, create wrinkles. It can also cause those dreaded under eye bags that make us look oh so tired. Another water related beauty tip is that warm water opens your pores and cold water closes them. So after washing your face or getting out of the shower, splash some cool water to close your pores and help keep dirt and oil out. Same goes for your hair! Cool water will close the hair cuticle, making your hair smoother and shinier! Water has endless benefits, and we hope you test it out for yourself! We know you’ll feel great on the inside and the out.
