The ‘red carpet experience’ denotes status, style and opulence: The very thought of it brings to mind glitz and glamour. It’s an iconic symbol – and from it – trends are born.
So as we here at Beauty Coach prepare to bid farewell to awards season, we’re taking stock of 2018’s most eye-catching looks. From enviable tresses to statement making makeup, we’ve gathered together a list of this year’s most crush worthy, red carpet styles – so you can continue to be inspired by Hollywood’s most glamorous, all year long.
Monochromatic makeup. In 2017, monochromatic makeup adorned the faces of Hollywood’s most illustrious – and if 2018’s runways were any indication – the technique is here to stay.
The method involves keeping your lips, eyes and cheeks within a single shade range. But whether peach, pink or downright bold, the look is best accomplished by choosing a hue that suits your skin tone. The best part? Minimal effort yields maximum results.
For a bold, monochromatic look take your inspiration from Kate Bosworth; her Critics’ Choice Awards style was striking – and wholly unexpected. To start, makeup artist Hung Vanngo applied a burnt red lipstick. We like Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Lip Crème Lipstick in Rei Of Light, which touts concentrated, color boosting, all-day strong pigments that are never dehydrating. For a bronze and gold inspired eye, reach for Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in Sunset, plus Marc Jacobs Beauty Eye-Conic Eyeshadow Palette in Scandalust.
Bold color choices. Mandy Moore donned a chic blue dress for the SAG Awards – but the cerulean blue that delicately adorned the inner corners of her eyes defined her style. To achieve the look, reach for Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Color in Peacock. The versatile eyeshadow stick delivers effortless application – and high impact color.
A reimagined braid. Lady Gaga wore the perfect braid for the Grammy’s, which seamlessly blended festival style with red carpet glamour. Stylist Frederic Aspiras created the detail heavy shape by weaving two fishtail braids down the length of Gaga’s back. Then, he laced them together with thick black thread to create a corset-like effect. And while recreating this look at home could prove difficult – it serves as the perfect jumping off point for simpler versions.
A slicked back topknot. Millie Bobby Brown impressed with a simple yet modern topknot at the Golden Globes. The style featured braids that cascaded up from the nape of her neck, and fed into a sleek knot. To replicate the look, we recommend starting with Oribe Gel Serum. The gold-flecked potion features powerful moisturizing agents, which delivers sophisticated hold and shine.
Though awards season is nearing its end, the Oscars lie on the horizon, and we can’t help but wonder: what will the final red carpet of the season bring? Because even as we look back on the best of this season’s red carpet looks – we are definitely looking forward to the grand finale. And we here at Beauty Coach can’t wait to bring more of Hollywood’s most decadent looks to life!
