Summer is just around the corner, and while we’re all for the perks – lounging poolside, BBQ’s and time spent in the great outdoors – we’ll take a pass on temperature-induced makeup meltdowns. Because we here at Beauty Coach know that there’s a significant difference between a complexion that glows, and one that glistens.
So, as we move into warmer temperatures, we’re overhauling our beauty bags. We’ll be putting our heavy creams, lotions and potions aside, in favor of more lightweight formulas. Here, we’ve rounded up some simple swaps. They’re 100% crave-worthy, and will keep you looking light, luminous and fresh – even on days when the sun is scorching hot!
Cool weather conditions call for ultra-hydrating ingredients, and a dense, rich texture. Though your complexion will still require TLC during the warm months ahead, you’ll want to swap heavy formulas for those that are lightweight, nutrient dense and easy to absorb. We’re loving these:
Tip 1: First, trade out milky formulas for gentle cleansing gels. This is because, after a long day spent basking in the sun (i.e. sweating), you’ll want something that washes away impurities with ease. Try Obagi Nu-Derm Gentle Cleanser, which gently removes impurities, oil and makeup, leaving skin fresh and clean.
Tip 2: Put away heavy creams in favor of lightweight, yet hydrating serums. We like Luxe Botanics Marula Hydrating Serum, which hydrates, protects and repairs with an essential skin nourishing concentrate. Moisture is locked in – hydration is restored, weightlessly.
Get a make-down
During the winter, we like to get all made-up. But come warm weather season, we put away heavy tints and tones in favor of their light-as-air counterparts. And though we may still reach for a pop of color – it’s usually strategic (think bright red lip or budge proof blue liner). Here, we share our warm weather essentials.
Tip 1: Summer is the time to let your skin breathe – and nothing says ‘breathe of fresh air’ like barely-there foundation. Start with Colorscience Calming Perfector SPF 20, which is a primer and skincare in one. Formulated to prep, soothe, reduce redness and camouflage imperfections, this multi-tasking primer paves the way for everything that follows. Next, reach for EltaMD UV Physical Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 41. It’s lightly tinted formula is non-greasy and water-resistant, making it a warm weather go to. Cover any imperfections with NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, which seamlessly blurs imperfections.
Tip 2: Make your look pop by opting for a monochromatic color pallet. We like Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks, which comes in several complexion flattering hues – and we recommend trying them all!
From lightweight serums to foundation alternatives, summer is the perfect time to clean out your beauty bag. So, whether you make a big switch, or a small one, you’ll feel lighter – and ready to take on whatever the weather throws your way!
