The Costume Institute of New York sanctified it’s love of enduring style statements at this year’s Met Gala, which was themed ‘Heavenly Body: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.’ Considered a nod to the papacy’s influence on fashion, invitees were prompted to don their ‘Sunday Best’ – a touch ironic for the Monday night soiree – and Hollywood’s elite did not disappoint. Unsurprisingly, the dress code prompted an array of looks that ranged from sacred (Kate Bosworth) to profane (Bella Hadid).
And although this years’ theme could have been considered controversial, it was sanctioned by the Vatican, effectively proving that the centuries old religion still touts its own level of cool.
Here, we’ve rounded up the most eye-catching looks of the evening.
Blake Lively: Romanesque in Atelier Versace
Blake Lively stunned in a room sweeping gown (how long WAS that train?). Considering it took over 600 hours to embroider the bodice alone, we’d say that her statement making look was climactic. Though we don’t think that we’ll be stealing her Met Gala style anytime soon – it took a party bus to transport her dress – we can definitely admire her style from afar.
Equally jaw dropping were Blake’s bangles, which are rumored to be worth approximately $2 Million. Get an equally impressive look with budget friendly Vintage Stackable Bangles.
Kim Kardashian: ‘Like a Virgin’ in Donatella Versace
No stranger to the art of ‘making an entrance,’ Kardashian wore a bold, eye-catching frock that was crafted out of gold chainmail. Subtly adorned with crosses, the dress was a collaborative effort between herself and Donatella Versace – and in our humble opinion, would have made a ‘90’s Madonna very proud.
Though we don’t consider chainmail ensembles to be worthwhile investment pieces, we’re loving Kim’s golden skin, tight and high ponytail and nude lip. Luckily, you can achieve a flawless golden glow, too. We like St. Tropez Tanning Essentials Gradual Tan Everyday Tinted Body Lotion, which gives natural-looking color – and an instant touch of bronze.
Rihanna: Pope-Like in Margiela
Never failing to disappoint, Rihanna’s Met Gala look was positively show-stopping – and we’re confident that it’s her consistently memorable ensembles that landed her a spot as a host at this year’s event. Crafted by Margiela, her papal crown and cape were studded and bedazzled to perfection. Vogue nailed it when they proclaimed that Rihanna ‘nailed the Met Gala – and took the fashion crowd to church.’
Copy her perfectly contoured brow, jaw, cheek and nose with Anastasia Beverly Hills Original Contour Kit, which is perfect for makeup enthusiasts and professionals, alike.
So, no matter which theatrical look you favored – remember – the key is to express yourself, unapologetically. Thanks, Met Gala. You give us life.
