Manicure Maintenance!

Here at Beauty Coach, we know how much time and money is spent on obtaining that perfect manicure. And after all that work, your nail polish tends to chip off or lift off faster than desired. So, we want to let you in on our secret to making your manicure last longer. It really comes down to maintenance and making sure that you take care of them. To make that easier, we’ve made a list of steps and products to help you out!

First, there’s a misconception that you should cut off your cuticles; but actually, it’s what protects your nails from infections. Instead, try pushing them back using a cuticle pusher like Tweezerman’s Multi Use Nail Tool, by using the buffered edge. You can also use the non buffered edge to clean up the nails.

Furthermore, there’s a misconception that you should soak your cuticles before pushing them back. But that causes your nail beds to retain that moisture. So, when you apply the polish, it’ll chip faster. We recommend using cuticle oil like NCLA’s So Rich Cuticle Oil. Infused with vitamin E and sunflower seed oil, this cuticle oil also nourishes your nails, along with softening it. (Pro Tip: paint away from your cuticles, as it is less likely to lift!)

Also, we recommend reapplying a layer of clear top coat every three days to seal in the polish and make sure that it stays fresh. Top coat tends to wear off pretty quickly, causing your polish to chip, so reapplying really does make a difference. Try NARS’ Nail Polish, Top and Base Coat which really enhances the shine of your polish and be used as both a top and base coat!

Finally, our last trick has to do with smudging your polish. Instead of taking it all off and starting all over: if your polish smudges while you’re in the process of fixing it up or applying just use a cotton swab to fix it! Dip the polish in nail polish remover, and whip away at it until the polish is even, then apply two layers of top coat. We recommend using Sephora’s Instant Nail Polish Remover, which comes with a foam so you don’t have to use cotton swabs!
