Nailing Skin Tones

Image (29)

A lot of us tend to get our style inspirations from what we see online and from influencers. The only problem with that is: what looks good on someone else, may not be what looks best on you. And that’s not to say that you can’t rock it (because you most definitely can and should!) just that different skin tones compliment different colors, and that’s especially true when it comes to nail polish! So here at Beauty Coach, we’ve compiled a list of the best polish shades to flatter your unique skin tone.

Fair/Light Skin:
For those with a lighter skin color, we definitely recommend bright colors, with pink and orange undertones such as Nars’ Nail Polish in the color Schiap. You can also try neon shades like ORLY’s Glowstick Nail Polish. Bright colors that stand out work well with fair skin tones because it really allows the color to pop, while not washing out your skin color!

Medium Fair Skin:
Those with medium to light skin tones should check out any color from the Deborah Lippmann Message in a Bottle Collection. The colors are very pastel based and would look great for any look. Their cool tone colors will work really well with those in between medium and fair. Try out their Sea of Love polish or Essie’s Find Me an Oasis, for natural every day wear.

Golden/Olive Skin:
For those with a warm tone golden color, we would try JINsoon’s Nail Lacquer in Epidote, or any deep olive shades. Any warm tone shades with brown or red would work really well with those with olive skin. Even try colors like Jin Soon’s Jasper as another option.

Medium Dark Skin:
Those with medium dark skin have to check out Tom Ford Beauty’s Nail Polish in Bitter! The colors that really compliment the skin are those with a brown undertone, like those with golden and olive skin. China Glaze’s Evening Seduction Nail Polish would also be a great brown based color!

Dark Skin:
For those with a deeper skin color, we want to pick colors that are subtle yet stand out. You want to choose grey undertones when it comes to nail polish colors. Yves Saint Laurent Beauty’s Asphalt Grey Nail Polish and Ciaté Crème Paint Pot’s Boudoir are sure to make a lasting impression.

Definitely check out these suggestions, and be sure to experiment for the nail polish color that fits your style!
