Ok, ok – we have a confession to make. When it comes to festival style, we here at Beauty Coach are left feeling uninspired by the ‘usual suspects.’ Flower crowns, boho style (imagined and reimagined, ah-gain), plus booty shorts galore. So, when Coachella came around this year, we had our eyes peeled for styles that broke the mold – and we were not disappointed. Here, we’ve rounded up our top-six most bespoke looks.
And fingers crossed: We hope that we’ll be seeing more unique style statements as festival season continues!
1. Matching sets
Though the trend isn’t necessarily new, it’s giving us life. Rihanna wore a white version, while one festival-goer wore a plaid number that was anything but basic.
2. The booty purse
Never heard of a booty purse? You needn’t fret – it’s just our way of saying fanny pack. Because whether at a festival or walking down a crowded, city sidewalk, there’s no better way to be than hands-free! And when it comes to festival wear, you can bet there were a bevy of beauties taking advantage of the convenience.
3. Inky-blue everything
From colored strands to eyeliner, inky blue was the hue de jour. While Joan Smalls wore an eye-catching blue liner, Instagram favorite @sitabellan rocked a chic blue bob. It’s enough to make us wonder: Where else will this new color pop up? For a simple addition, add it to your tips with Essie Nail Polish in Aruba Blue.
4. Colored braids
Coachella braids were seen dip-dyed and color infused – but we here at Beauty Coach were (once again) crushing on Joan Smalls with her burgundy-tinged box braids. For your own temporary pop of (millennial) pink, reach for IGK Girls Club Color Spray.
5. The ‘tight and high’ ponytail
It’s no secret that Coachella invites sweat-inducing temperatures – and because of this – strands are often worn up and away. But this season looks like it’s bringing back the ‘tight and high’ ponytail: slicked back and situated on the crown of the head. Bella Hadid wore hers half up with a scrunchie, and the images of the moment went viral. Achieve the ‘tight and high’ by brushing Oribe Gel Serum through roots, which staves off flyaways, plus adds shine.
6. Crimped strands
Throwback texture? Yes please. Ariana Grande wore her ‘tight and high’ ponytail crimped – and we think this look is everything. In fact, we’re predicting a resurgence of this ‘80’s inspired style, which is fun, flirty, and downright voluminous. Achieve your own crimped style with DRYBAR’s Big Crimpin’ Crimping Iron.
So, while Coachella is officially over, festival season is just kicking off – and we can’t wait to see what our music-loving beauties come up with! Cheers, to a sizzling summer.
