We’ve all heard of a skincare routine: a regimen that, if done right, can make our skin blemish free and glowing. Much like a skin care routine, a hair care routine can give the same glowing and luscious results! But a lot of the times, do we actually know where to start?
First, lets start with dry hair. Those with dry hair tend to have natural frizz and breakage as well. So, first off you want to pick the right shampoo. As a general rule of thumb, avoid any products that have sulfate in it because it’ll only dry out your hair even more. This is very easy to avoid because shampoos with sulfates are required to note “sodium” in their list of ingredients. Try Aveeno’s Pure Renewal Gentle Shampoo to balance, moisturize and gently cleanse your hair without stripping it of hydration.
Next, why not try incorporating a moisturizing hair mask 2-3 times a week to give that extra boost of hydration your tresses are begging for? It’s A 10’s Miracle Hair Mask works to repair and protect against damage. Leaving this in the hair after shampooing will reduce frizz by penetrating the hair shaft with protein and conditioner, allowing more flexibility and manageability.
Now, when it comes to hair that gets greasy fast, you want to treat it like it’s dry hair too. Making sure the oil is there before you strip it away. So once again, our goal should be balancing the hair. Coconut oil is great for balancing, so try out Kiehl’s Amino Acid Shampoo to add fullness and body: sometimes greasy hair tends to lack moister. Less is definitely more when it comes to cleaning oily hair. Try shampooing every other day as opposed to everyday. The more you shampoo, the more your scalp works to replace the natural oil, therefore causing your noggin to overproduce oil, resulting in the exact opposite effect of what hype are trying to achieve! Frustrating…we know!
On another note, we don’t care if you’re oily or dry…only use hot tools when necessary. Try other alternatives such as air drying, braiding, or even leaving it natural! But, if you have to heat up those locks, try Bumble and Bumble’s Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protective Primer. This miracle product will not only protect from synthetic heat, but the sun’s UV rays as well. A crucial step often dismissed when trying to assemble the perfect hair care routine.
Finally, with all the products that we apply throughout the day from texturizing creams to hair sprays, we need to keep in mind that’s a lot of heavy lifting for our hair. Dry shampoos might be a great temporary solution, but long term- it’s not the best. Hello?!? Buildup…yuck! We suggest creating a mixture of vinegar and water, applying and letting it sit. After a few minutes, just rinse and kiss that buildup goodbye. All you will be left with is soft silky tresses. WE PROMISE. Oh, and don’t worry! Your hair won’t smell like vinegar in the slightest.
